Diversity & Affirmative Action
Human Resources provides resources, programs, and materials that foster and nurture a diverse faculty and staff.
Here are a few things we do:
- Provide guidance in Eastern’s hiring activities to meet affirmative action goals.
- Monitor recruitment to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, federal and state laws and collective bargaining agreements.
- Investigate complaints of discrimination filed against employees.
- Ensure HR vendors reflect the diversity of EMU and the community.
- Conduct trainings and workshops on affirmative action, equal opportunity employment and diversity issues as well as discrimination, harassment and fair employment practices.
- Monitor pending state and federal legislation and policy developments related to affirmative action and EEO and participate in related hearings.
- Prepare an annual affirmative action plan.
- Participate on various university and community committees and organizations representing EMU.

Affirmative Action Plan
This report summarizes Eastern's affirmative action plans (AAP) for women and minorities, veterans and individuals with disabilities (IWDs). The AAP is revised annually and the updated version will appear here.

Affirmative Action Audit Report
The annual affirmative action audit is an analysis of the University's workforce with emphasis on the percentages of women and minorities in job groups compared to education-related labor markets. You may view it at the Office of Diversity and Affirmative Action in 301 Pierce Hall.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex under any education program or activity receiving federal financial aid. Sexual assault and sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by Title IX.
Eastern Michigan University is committed to providing a learning, living and working environment free from discrimination.
